Mexico City is a Palimpsest. Layers of historic construction pile on top of each other in streets of never-ceasing life. This is where Francisco Ignacio de Yraeta (1732-1797) wrote letters documenting his life. We hear from this world of commerce and uncertainty, superposed onto the patterns, colours and sounds of his old neighbourhood today. This film is an excavation of his past private thoughts, in an effort to find - and create, a continuity with the present.
