Kebab.
The Journey of a Döner Kebab in Berlin.
16mm film / 5 minutes
Director. Khaldoon Ahmed
Director of Photography. Oliver Bushner
Production Manager. Anne Tetzlaff
The film was inspired first and foremost by Berlin. The city which is the home of the Döner Kebab, and the associated night-street culture. Secondly, the film is a visual exploration of a process that has been described by theorists from Marx to Weber. This is our modern disconnection of what we consume from the way it is produced.
The idea was to make a political film. But a political film describing a process rather than judging it. By photographing ‘Nur Döner’ in on 16mm film in a formal stylistic manner, there is an attempt to escape the conventions of documentary to enable us to see our everyday world in sharp relief.
